LASIK NOTES OF INTEREST
1. LASIK is the most commonly preferred refractive surgery procedure. Why is it so popular? LASIK has advantages over other procedures, including a relative lack of pain afterward and the fact that good vision is usually achieved almost immediately, or at least by the very next day.
2. Approximately 90% of myopic (nearsighted) and hyperopic (farsighted) patients now have the potential to see better than with glasses or contacts by receiving VISX Custom Vue™ individualized laser vision correction that we call Wavefront Custom Sight™ LASIK.
3. In order to decide whether you're a good candidate for LASIK, we will examine your eyes to determine their health, what kind of vision correction you need, and how much laser ablation is required. In addition to standard vision tests a corneal topographer is used. This device photographs your eye and creates a kind of "map" of your corneas. No one has a perfectly rounded cornea, and the topographer will display the cornea irregularities and the steepness or flatness that the surgeon must correct. In addition to using a Zeiss topographer we also use a VISX WaveScan® which send waves through the eye to provide an even more precise maps of the aberrations that are affecting your vision - (Wavefront Custom Sight™ LASIK).
4. A recent FDA clinical study showed many participants were
more satisfied with their quality of vision after the VISX Custom
Vue™ procedure than before the procedure with the use of
glasses or contacts. Quality of vision refers to not only what you
see, but also how well you see under a variety of conditions,
such as driving at night.
Four times as many participants were very satisfied with their night vision after VISX Wavefront guided LASIK, compared to their night vision with their glasses or contact lenses before the procedure.
